Picking On The Bad Guys

I am guilty. Rereading my last note, I see that I accused G.B. Shaw of being too sure of himself. Maybe George should have been less opinionated and more open. Openness is one of the personality traits in a psychological model known as The Big Five. They can be remembered by the acronym OCEAN:

Openness
Conscientiousness
Extraversion
Agreeableness
Neuroticism

A full exposition and critique of the model is given in this Wikipedia article. The model is descriptive rather than prescriptive. It does offer some correlations; for example, with learning styles, stages of development, birth order, gender, and success in business and marriage.

Leave it to opinionated geezers like George to decide what sort of personality people should have. The personalities we do have are trouble enough, and I don't want the blame for anyone else's misdemeanors. So if you find me indulging in a rant, please click the little X at the upper right or swipe left if that is how you deal with annoying geezers.

Or maybe read a bit before clicking the X. In defense of opinionated geezers, since personality is often correlated with trouble, it may help to be aware of personalities (ours and theirs) and to make allowances rather than barge blindly into battle. We could be more agreeable and less critical. Yes?

Still, there is the X, and my opinions are just my opinions. Oops, wrong model.

There is another model called HEXACO that adds honesty-humility as a sixth personality trait. To be humble, I don't actually know this stuff I'm writing about. But to be honest, that doesn't stop me from picking on the bad guys, the ones whose personalities are out of whack, according to me and maybe George sometimes.

What, you too?
