If there is anybody here in a hundred years remembering what we were up to back when, I imagine they will find an appropriate name for our time on the planet. I suggest The Snark Ages. We have turned Snark into an art form: Sneering at the efforts of others, Smearing authorities with innuendo, and Slandering others to promote our own status or opinions. Perhaps the anonymity of the internet has convinced us we can get away with anything. I was going to list examples, but that would be participating in the Snarkiness of the age.
Take a step back to find a better way forward. Back when I was a kid, the whole bunch of us would have been sent to bed without supper for behaviour now considered normal. What happened to treating others the way you expect to be treated? Let's earn some respect by showing some respect, the way we used to when Mum and Dad were watching.
We need a proper relational style for a gentler world. When someone puts time and effort into learning a skill or providing a service, congratulate them on what they have accomplished rather than finding fault or naming someone who does it better. If we disagree with public policy, we could suggest improvements, give reasons, and maybe lend a hand. Let us be Generation E for Empathic, Encouraging, Enabling and Engaging together in the work of making things better.
